Is silence golden?

I’m thinking of having only the lead character in my project speak as I felt I was getting too caught up in the dialogue of other characters. Instead, the other characters will only be indirectly quoted by the protagonist-narrator.

Notably, the support character I feel I am getting too caught up in the dialogue of is one with a very technological understanding of the world, who can spout off anything technological with seemingly no filter for hours. I do not want sem to come across as annoying or as stealing the thunder of the main character. Is this the right way for me to go about it without going to the pain of constantly editing ses dialogue?
