Nor will it be for three months.
As much as I love that wonderful holiday, I am seeing many places getting their Christmas items on the shelves. While it can get a little chilly, it’s not the “snuggle down with a Yankee Candle and a hot chocolate” all the imagery wants you to feel. It’s still possible to go out in a T-shirt or vest on some days. The trees have barely shed their foliage.
And this isn’t even the earliest time that people start thinking about Santa and presents. In the past couple of years I have seen a Lincolnshire Co-op get their Christmas chocolates out in the third week of August and a Christmas ad on the TV in very early JULY! Harrods, the posh London shop, brings out its Christmas range every year on the 1st of August. You know, when most people are going on their SUMMER HOLIDAYS.
If I was Prime Minister, I would make it illegal for shops to sell their new Christmas items before the first of November.
Baby Jesus wept, and the holiday wasn’t even about him to start with.
